Step 01 Learn about the challenge

    Join the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge and engage youth in reading about wildfire prevention, forests, and natural resource careers while they explore their local environment.

    This challenge can be run through a printable challenge paper log (see Library Toolkit).

Step 02 How to Participate

  • Challenge Details

    Who: Challenge is geared for ages 4 to 10, but all ages are welcome.

    How: Access the digital toolkit for libraries which contains everything needed to promote and implement the challenge, including:

    • Printable challenge paper log, posters, bookmarks, sticker/button templates, completion certificates, coloring sheets, “Pin the Hat on Smokey” game, Smokey’s Reading List, and printable prizes.
    • Graphics and images for online platforms, social media, monitors, and websites.

    Join Smokey in learning about wildfire prevention and the environment. Read books, take action, and have fun! And remember…only you can prevent wildfires.

  • Challenge Details

    Who: Challenge is geared for parents of children, ages 4 to 10, but all ages are welcome. 
    How to Participate: Ask your local librarian or get started by downloading the printable challenge log.
    Have Fun: Read books about wildfire and the environment, take action, receive prizes, and help Smokey! When you complete the challenge, visit the Individual Toolkit for a completion certificate, poster, bookmarks, coloring pages, and other printable games and prizes.
